About Alpha NarrativeStories that open
something in you.
An independent journal founded by John Michael Abang, exploring culture, money, technology, and ambition. We are interested in what captures your attention—and what you take away from it.
One philosophy. Three invitations.Entertain the masses.
Educate the interested.
Empower the few.
These are stages of curiosity, not ranks of human importance. Nobody has to earn the right to belong here. A reader may come for a good story today, return with a question tomorrow, and put an idea to work next week.
01Entertain the masses.
Give people a reason to care.
A compelling story is an invitation. Humour, surprising observations, everyday experiences, and thoughtful cultural commentary can bring people into a subject they might otherwise pass by. We want the first few lines to feel worth your time—not like homework, and not like a trick to win a click.
02Educate the interested.
Make curiosity rewarding.
When a story raises a question, we look closer. What does the idea mean? How does it work? What are we assuming? Our explanations aim to be clear enough for a newcomer without talking down to them. We value examples, careful distinctions, and the honesty to acknowledge what an article cannot establish.
03Empower the few.
Give the willing reader something to use.
The few means the people ready to act on a particular idea—not a superior group of people. It might be one reader trying a new habit, asking a better question, building a useful tool, or taking responsibility for a difficult conversation. The aim is agency: understanding enough to choose your own next step.
A wide world.
A clear thread.
Culture helps us notice the stories we live inside. Money brings questions about work, value, status, and choice. Technology invites us to understand what we are using. Ambition asks who we become while pursuing what we want.
The thread is a more thoughtful life: enjoying the world, understanding it a little better, and acting with greater intention.
